Mexican authorities detain Tijuana cops

TIJUANA – The Mexican military has detained 23 Tijuana municipal police officers and one civilian suspected of ties to organized crime, the federal Attorney General's Office announced Tuesday.

Federal judges have ordered the suspects held for 40 days while they remain under investigation by a federal authorities. Most of the officers held supervisory positions in the 2,200-member department, said Julian Leyzaola, Tijuana's secretary of public safety.
