Mexican Federal Agents Cross Into U.S. Without Permission

EL PASO - A scary day for some local Dove hunters on the U.S. / Mexico border. We're told Mexican Federal Agents crossed into U.S. territory and aimed their automatic weapons directly at them.

Border Patrol agents were on the move at the Zaragoza Bridge. It's dove hunting season, which means the crossing in the Ysleta District is usually pretty busy.

"This morning they just didn't open the gate for us, and it's usually open pretty early," Jacob Cope said.

Cope has been trying to hunt all day, but he hasn't been allowed through the gates. That may be because this morning another group of hunters came face-to-face with Mexican men carrying powerful guns.

"Right now, I went and they said there was an incursion on the Mexican side coming over here, some Mexican soldiers," Cope said.

The Border Patrol confirmed that Mexican Federal Agents crossed into the U.S. without permission. Word spread through the hunting community that those Federal Agents shot at a group of hunters and then stole some hunting equipment. Border Patrol says those allegations were not part of their initial investigation, and so far there's nothing to prove that actually happened. Tonight Border Patrol, the State Parks and Wildlife, and the Mexican Government are all investigating what happened. It appears that investigation means a closed border for frustrated hunters who say they've never experienced this before.

"I've done this since I was probably 12-years-old, and it's never been an issue. I mean they drive back-and-forth on their side all the time. You'll see guys up there with M-16's," Cope said. "I wish they'd open the gates for us. We've done this for years, and there's no reason they should shut gates on us."

Tonight there are no reports of any injuries because of what happened.

Border Patrol would not release any more information to us.

Of course, we'll continue to follow this story.

US Authorities Investigate Incursion By Mexican Federal Police
    By Web Producer Fernie Ortiz

    POSTED: 3:55 pm MDT September 1, 2011
    UPDATED: 1:51 pm MDT September 2, 2011

EL PASO, Texas -- Border Patrol officials are investigating an incursion by Mexican federal police into the United State on Thursday morning.

U.S. Border Patrol spokesman Doug Mosier said armed officers with Mexico's Secretaria de Seguridad Publica federal police were in the incursion, which took place in El Paso, near the Border Patrol's Ysleta station.

The Mexican government, Border Patrol and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department are investigating the incident. U.S. authorities responded to the incident.

An ABC-7 viewer contacted the station early Thursday, saying her son, husband and friends were hunting on the Rio Grande levy on the U.S. side when men on the Mexico side fired shots, narrowly missing them. She said more men on the Mexico side drove up with automatic weapons and into to U.S. side. She said the armed men fired weapons and stole hunters' chairs and drove back into Mexico.

Mosier said Border Patrol agents and Texas Parks and Wildlife officers were sent to the area immediately.

"Upon approach, our agents observed those subjects (Mexican officers) who committed the incursion return back to Mexico," Mosier said.

Mosier said that at no point of the initial investigation were there any allegations of shots being fired at subjects on the U.S. side of the border, nor is there any information to suggest that any personal items were stolen from the U.S. side of the international boundary.

"We remain in constant and direct contact with our partners in the government of Mexico as the investigation unfolds."

    Our partners in what? Crime?

I find this laughable. How often do US Law Enforcement regularly make unlawful incursions into Mexico?

This amounts to an invasion by the government of Mexico and should be considered as such. Now we have the cause to put a full force of troops there and secure it once and for all. Make sure they have plenty of ammo also.

This sounds much like an act of war to me. But of course, our La Raza supporting government will simply sweep this "incursion" under the rug. Move along folks, nothing to see here.....

Border Incursions: Possible Security Threat To The Nation

    By Anthony Garcia - STAFF
    Friday, September 2, 2011 - 4:53pm

EL PASO - A national watchdog group says the Mexican Government incursion that happened just a few miles outside of El Paso could be a major security threat to the nation.
The Zaragoza Bridge was very active on Thursday, just hours after hunters reported being shot at and robbed by Mexican gunmen who crossed the river into the United States. The Border Patrol says those gunmen were Mexican Federal Police Agents, but they said the shooting and robbery were not part of their initial investigation.

"This is a crisis situation on the border and unless a citizen seems to run into it as the hunters did, the government is not really going to tell you about it," Tom Fitton said.

Fitton is the President of Judicial Watch, a national watchdog group in Washington DC. His organization won a fight with the government to gain access to information on border incursions and even obtained video of a border incursion that happened in El Paso in 2008. Fitton says, the data proves border incursions are happening at an alarming rate.

"We were shocked to find that the incidents involved shots fired on both sides of the border, unmarked helicopters invading U.S. airspace, drug smuggling and confrontations between U.S. Border Patrol Agents and armed members of the Mexican Military," he said.

Fitton told us the data also shows some of the incursions weren't accidents.

"The most recent incident, as reported by your station there, shows that it was not only purposeful, but criminal in the sense that they came over and seemingly robbed folks," he said.

It's a problem Fitton says is rising and could be dangerous to border security if ignored by Washington.

"What it means, and it shows, is the border is obviously un-secure and unsafe. With the recent restrictions regarding hunting on the border you have to wonder, who controls our territory? The Mexican Government or the U.S. Government?."

Border Patrol hasn't released any more information on what exactly happened. They did tell us that Border Patrol Agents witnessed Mexican Police Agents crossing back into Mexico, and several agencies are now investigating. Today the International Boundary and Water Commission announced that Border Patrol is only allowing hunters through the gates during daylight hours because of what happened.
