    Reported by: Eddie Flores
    Last Update: 11:05 am

ZAPATA - Witnesses report a major gunbattle across Falcon Lake from Zapata.

Zapata County Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzales tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS his office began getting phone calls from people on the lake around 5:30 Thursday evening. One boater reports seeing a Mexican military helicopter firing missiles into Old Guerero.

Sheriff Gonzales tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS the Mexican military has been concentrating on the area because it's a stronghold for the Zetas, but they have not confirmed the incident on Thursday.

"This information about the missiles came from a citizen who reported it to me, that between 20 to 24 missiles were fired from a helicopter. It's not confirmed; it's just given to us by a witness." said Zapata County Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez.

Old Guerrero is regarded as a longtime stronghold for the Zeta Cartel. The town is on the Mexican side of Falcon Lake along the Arroyo Salado.

There were no reports of any Americans being injured in the incident.

The Zapata County Sheriff's Office is now waiting on Mexican officials for details on what exactly happened Thursday in Old Guerrero.

Old Guerrero Is All Quiet Again

    Reported by: Farrah Fazal
    Last Update: 7:54 pm

ZAPATA - The old town of Guerrero is quiet again Friday night. So far, no helicopters are firing missiles or no explosions like earlier this week on the Mexican side of Falcon Lake. The fishermen are going back over to the Mexican side, too.

A lot of fishermen were on the lake Friday. They say they're not afraid. They say the navy operations this week make this lake even safer.

The birds surround it. The fish live in it. The beauty of Falcon Lake never seems to fade even when chaos is constant.

“Over the hills in the old town of Guerrero, there was about 15-20 explosions,â€
