HARLINGEN — A Mexican national was arraigned Friday on a first-degree felony murder charge after a collision early Thursday that left a Harlingen woman dead.

Sgt. David Osborne said bond was set at $1.5 million for Noe Nuñez-Mendez, 24, who was transferred Friday to the Cameron County Jail.

Investigators have diagramed the crash scene, Osborne said, and determined that Nuñez-Mendez was speeding when his Dodge Ram truck crashed into the driver’s side of a Toyota Corolla driven by Vivian Sue Callaway, 41.

Callaway was taken by ambulance to ValleyBaptistMedicalCenter, where she died a short time after the crash.

The impact of the collision pushed the Toyota several feet, and the Dodge truck struck a pole outside a convenience store at the corner of Ed Carey Drive and the Expressway 77/83 frontage road, Osborne said.
