The drug-fueled violence that has plagued Mexico and spilled over the boarder into the US shows no signs of stopping.
Mexican President Felipe Calderon's offensive against the drug cartels has been met by a wave of violence that has claimed the lives of more than 47,000 people, according to statistics cited by the Associated Press.
Included in the number of casualties are 16,000 unidentified bodies, with at least 49 more uncovered last month.
The violence, which sometimes trickles into the US, has made some worried about the seemingly futile effort to clamp down on drug traffickers.
"The level of violence we're living with reflects the critical condition our institutions are in, and it reveals a corrupt government," Blanca Martinez of the Fray Juan de Larios human rights center in the northern border state of Coahuila, told the AP.
Some, like former Salon blogger and current Guardian columnist, Glenn Greenwald have blamed America's drug laws for the death wrought by cartels.
Greenwald contends that, without a demand for illegal drugs in America, the Mexican gangs would have far less incentive to engage in violence.
Whatever the cause, the deadly results of Mexico's drug war are undeniable. Click through the slideshow below to see some of the lethal incidents over just the last four months.
“HuffPost Live will be taking a comprehensive look at America’s failed war on drugs August 28th and September 4th from 12-4 pm ET and 6-10 pm ET.

Mexican marines detain 4 suspected cartel members

Four suspected Jalisco Nueva Generacion drug cartel members were arrested in the western state of Jalisco by marines, the Mexican Navy Secretariat said Monday.
The suspects, who were detained Sunday in Ciudad Guzman, had firearms, ammunition, security forces uniforms, vehicles and communications equipment in their possession, the secretariat said.
The suspects were identified as Raul Sosa Jimenez, who was allegedly in charge of a cell of the cartel's enforcers, Maria Nelida Flores Reyes, Guillermo Alberto Ramirez Mundo and Jose Antonio Reyes Mundo.
The four are "presumed to be direct associates of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias 'El Mencho,' who is the leader of the Jalisco Nueva Generacion cartel," the secretariat said.
Unconfirmed media reports over the weekend said Oseguera was arrested in Jalisco two days ago.
At least six suspected Jalisco Nueva Generacion drug cartel members died in a shootout with police in Tonaya, a city in Jalisco, over the weekend.
Cartel enforcers closed at least 22 roads in Jalisco after the shootout, the Federal Police said.
Gunmen used vehicles to block streets across the Guadalajara metropolitan area and in nearby cities, setting 35 vehicles on fire, Jalisco Government Secretary Victor Manuel Gonzalez said.
The Jalisco Nueva Generacion organization was created following the death of Ignacio "Nacho" Coronel, a top Sinaloa drug cartel boss killed by the army in 2010.
Jalisco Nueva Generacion has been fighting Los Zetas, considered Mexico's most violent drug cartel, for control of smuggling routes into the United States. EFE

Considering whether enterring with our miltary to put the Mexican drug wars down if that would curb some of the illegal mmigration. It is hard for me to seperate them, if I lived in that mess with an open border within a few miles I'd flee.
