I don't know about the rest of the border area but tens of thousands of Americans retire to Mexico in the Baja California, Mexico area. Home ownership or rent is much cheaper there. People can live well on Social Security and other retirement money. Doctors, hospitals and medications are all cheaper in Mexico.
