Any country banking on oil to float them past 2050 is in for a huge, and very sad surprise.
Just because you're used to something doesn't make it right.

Why is that? If the Russians and an increasing number of Western geologists who adhere to the abiogenic theory of petroleum genesis are correct, the "peak oil" theory is nonsense. The fact that most of the new megafinds have been located using the abiogenic model does not bode well for those who adhere to the assumptions of the peak oil crowd.

Of course it's debatable, because no one knows for sure. But there hasn't been a megafind in a loooong time. Also, there's a big push right now for alternative fuels. So, at the very least, oil will probably be among several choices. And so probably not as much of a money maker.

Oh, you are very wrong on that count. There was one located in the Gulf of Mexico just last year and another in Siberia either last year or the year before. There was another in India within the last five years that was located with the assistance of Russian geologists. we have had several of the largest finds ever in the last decade, and the success rate of the Russians has moved them to the position of largest petroleum producer in the world.

How oil is formed is pointless to discuss. What is important is how fast it can be produced to satisfy the market in a world of ever increasing population. Even a plateau in production could cause serious economic problems. This was all discussed here...

CG. What do you think will be the US government's reaction if a refuge crisis forms? I personally think it may be an excellent excuse to exit Iraq to protect the southern border. Don't think the Bush admin does not know what's going on with Cantrell... they are all oil men!

I dunno, man, that all sounds pretty cloak and dagger to my ears, but please feel free to elaborate.

Mexican Company Predicts End of Oil

Mexico, Jul 27 (Prensa Latina) Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) announced that oil reserves may run out in seven years.

"Supplies of this economically exploitable resource are running out," informed a report sent by the state owned company to the United States stock market.

Until December 31, 2005 the report says proven reserves were about 8.978 billion barrels, while yearly production was 1.322 billion tons. If this rhythm continues oil will run out in the time stipulated..

El Universal newspaper reports that experts of the PFC Energy Advisory company based in Washington pointed out that investments for PEMEX exploration is also running out of time.

Even if heavy investments were made now, new oil fields would take from six to eight years to be ready and, consequently, Mexico may have to import oil to satisfy the internal market, it warned.

The newspaper quotes Carlos Ramirez, PEMEX spokesman as saying that if necessary investments were made, this would provide another 2.9 more years to what is foreseen with the proven developed reserves.

The director of the state owned company, Jesus Reyes, insisted that these are difficult moments due to a reduction of production in Cantareli, the main oil field in the country.
    I'll state it again..
60% of Mexico's tax revenue is from oil...

Well, if Mexico's oil future is in danger, thus causing a bigger flow of illegals coming across our borders, then we have our work cut out for us.

Now that Homeland Security has the money to secure our borders and enforce the immigration laws in the enterior, Chertoff doesn't have any excuse not get these jobs done. He said, "Give me the tools and I'll enforce the law." Well, now he has them. Bet he sure didn't like that Homeland Security Bill getting passed.

So now, it's up to people to put pressure on our government to secure our country again. I'm ready!
