DETROIT (WXYZ) - Detroit Police officers were able to quickly nab a hit-and-run driver thanks to the help of concerned citizens who witnessed the driver speed off after hitting a 69-year-old man.

It happened around 2:40 p.m. Sunday at Michigan Avenue and Cecil.

A source told 7 Action News that it appears the 28-year-old suspect may have been under the influence when he hit the senior citizen, and it appears the suspect is in the country illegally.

The victim had just picked up some food and was walking home when it happened.
