The man charged with killing two fellow farm workers in Springfield last month gave authorities a full, videotaped confession of the machete slayings, a prosecutor told a Superior Court judge moments ago.

Carlos Reyes, an illegal immigrant from Honduras, was ordered held on $2 million bail today at his first court appearance since being extradited from Texas. He is now in the Burlington County Jail with his brother, Cesar Reyes, who is being held on $1 million as a material witness in the case.

Burlington County Deputy First Assistant Prosecutor James Ronca said not only did Cesar Reyes witness his brother brutally murder their two co-workers at the Sterling Chase Farm on Feb. 26, but that Carlos Reyes confessed to the double homicide.

Authorities have said Carlos Reyes, 41, was the sole participant in the grisly murder of fellow farm hands Alex Aguilar, 29, and Marcial Morales-Maldonado, 48.

Both Reyes brothers were taken into custody earlier this month after they fled to Houston. Authorities said they were preparing to flee the country when apprehended.

Carlos and Cesar were also determined to be missing. The two brothers lived and worked together with Aguilar and Morales-Maldonado for several years. All four men were illegal immigrants from Honduras.

An autopsy performed by the Burlington County Medical Examiner’s determined Aguilar and Morales-Maldonado were killed as a result of “massive head trauma caused by hacking and cutting consistent with a machete,â€
