    Migrant worker sentenced for farmer's murder

    GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- A migrant worker will serve life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of his employer, an Alpine Township fruit farmer.

    Socorro Garcia-Hurtado, 48, appeared in court Tuesday before Circuit Court Judge Donald Johnston for sentencing. Garcia-Hurtado was convicted of first-degree murder last month for the February 2010 shooting death of Ed Rasch.

    Garcia-Hurtado shot Rasch when the farmer visited him in his housing unit at the Alpine Township farm. Prosecutors say Rasch had recently fired Garcia-Hurtado for poor job performance after 20 years of working on the farm.

    The first-degree murder conviction mandates the life sentence without parole.

    I would but around here most of the farmers think they have got their hispanics trained to do what they want them to do and thats just what the hispanics want them to think.
