Minuteman Project: A Logical Start

By Allan J. Ashinoff
July 7, 2005
To discard the Minuteman Project and its people as nutcases or as our President calls them vigilantes is to do a disservice to the essence of who we are as Americans. The article Logic Class 101: The Minuteman Project made a good point of considering property rights and liability. A foundational pillar of the United States is the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution or the express right to private property. But the flaw in the Logic 101 article property rights/liability argument is in realizing a simple basic logical premise: liability assumes someone owns the land and that others are trespassing.

The Minutemen are seeking permission from the land owners to patrol the private land which comprises the US-Mexico border. So what? If the resident says yes and the Minutemen sign waivers accepting any and all liability from their actions then they are free to patrol. If the resident says no then the Minutemen aren’t free to patrol that land. Again so what? The actual trespassers are the Illegal Aliens who are passing over the border in mobs of a dozen or more men women and children. These people do not have the permission of the land owner to set foot on this land. Even if they had the permission of the land owner the US government, despite its own unwillingness to enforce its laws, by law forbids non-US citizens from entering into this country without the consent of the federal government.

In Arizona one can see first hand the illegal problem probably more than those living in other border states. Phoenix is a springboard for illegal trafficking which regularly catches dozens of illegal immigrants a day. Just a drive past any Home Depot or Lowe’s one can see a dozen or so illegals waiting for someone to offer them work. On a daily basis there is news of deaths in the desert, or car jacking’s, or home invasions which seem to center around Hispanic individuals who seldom speak English and who are often of “questionable immigration status. Arizona “emergency rooms have become the primary care facilities for illegals because hospital emergency rooms are forbidden by law to turn those in need away. Arizona hospitals (who are not reimbursed for care given to those who aren’t insured) have to decide if they should keep their maternity wards open or to close them in order to put more money into their overwhelmed emergency rooms.

Arizonans had to fight to pass legislation like Proposition 200 only to have an anti-American governor and her legal minions tie it up indefinitely in bureaucracy. A common sense piece of legislation which would require proof of identity when voting and that illegal aliens were ineligible for state social service benefits is something the Arizona governor can’t see as fair? The Arizona governor opposes Americans wanting their tax dollars to be spent exclusively on services for Americans and for protecting the sanctity of the states voting polls.

Just what is it that America stands for? If she stands for one thing more than another it is for the sovereignty of self-governing people.

- Woodrow Wilson (1856 - 1924)

Today, we need a nation of Minutemen, citizens who are not only prepared to take arms, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as the basic purpose of their daily life and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice for that freedom.

- John F. Kennedy (1917 - 1963)

The Minutemen have already shown the citizens of Arizona and our federal government who they are and what methods the employ. They have shown the nation that it doesn’t take ten million dollars, 100,000 armed people, or millions of dollars in high-tech gadgetry to stop the flow of illegals into Arizona. All it takes is nearly 1000 committed Americans with binoculars, communications radios, folding chairs, a ton of sun block, and mass quantities of water to ensure that the US Border Patrol are actually doing their job. The Minuteman volunteers made it painfully obvious that average everyday Americans care more about our national sovereignty than the state and federal government does. The Minutemen proved and that the job of border patrol is not impossible if someone would simply make a real and coordinated effort. They proved that Americans, armed, can show restraint and professionalism and do the job despite the leftist rhetoric of the ACLU.

Question: How is it that Soviet Russia was able to secure their borders with Europe and China when it far exceeded the 1800 miles of US-Mexico border?

Answer: They wanted to, they were deadly serious, and were completely inhospitable to those who didn’t belong. America, through degraded national sovereignty, is on the edge of losing her national identity via an over saturation of foreign nationals flooding its southwestern cities. The American people know it and displayed the desire to have our borders maintained. Yet both Democrats, for votes, and Republicans, for cheap labor, do nothing to quell this flood.

Isn’t it time America’s government takes this threat as seriously as the American people are? Americans must remember who isn’t standing by America and its Sovereignty at election times and exercise the privilege. America is for Americans and those who wish to be American.
