Minutemen plan return to border this weekend

The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps plan to return Whatcom County’s northern border with Canada this weekend.
About 12 to 15 volunteers will man points between Blaine and Sumas beginning Saturday morning, said Tom Williams, a Deming resident who is the chapter leader of the Washington Minuteman Detachment.

He said volunteers will prepare for a coming monthlong watch in April, in concert with other Minutemen across the country.

This would be the sixth border watch for the group in Whatcom County.

While the group says it draws attention to border security issues and illegal immigration, critics say the organization only promotes racism against Hispanics and others.
