JACKSON, Miss. -- Dozens of people marched on Thursday for immigrants' rights at the Capitol building in Jackson.

Mississippi Immigration Rights Alliance, or MIRA, along with other immigrants' rights groups, rallied to protest the Mississippi Ethnic Cleansing Act.

The act was recently passed by the Legislature. MIRA said it is designed to drive Hispanics out of the state.

One MIRA representative said the group hopes to change laws like that.

"Force people who are seeking work, seeking to support their families, to either overstay their visa or enter without authorization, and we want to change those laws," said Bill Chandler, of MIRA.

Many of the people who were a part of the nation's largest immigration raid in Laurel in August took part in Thursday's march.
