Mississippi Senate passes immigration-check bill
Mississippi Senate passes immigration-check bill

January 18, 2011
JACKSON, MS
The Mississippi Senate has passed the bill to let law enforcement officers check the status of people they think might be in the United States illegally.
The bill passed 34 to 15 Tuesday after a debate that stretched more than four hours.
The bill says an officer could check a person's immigration status during traffic stops or other encounters, if the officer suspects the person might not have permission to be in the country.
Supporters say the bill would help keep out people who are living or working in the U.S. without proper documents.
Opponents say the bill amounts to election-year pandering.
The bill is Senate Bill 2179.

Mississippi has some really tough immigration enforcement laws and when I was looking at a map that listed the number of illegals, this state only had 10,000.
We supposedly have half a million here in GA, but that number is woefully underestimated. We are drowning in illegals, and our state is drowning in debt. They are about to start taxing groceries and services while eliminating even more state jobs.
We are seriously considering moving to Mississippi when we retire if we could ever sell or rent our house.

Mississippi is about 20 minutes away from where I live and I thought about moving there also. I hope other states start passing more bills targeting illegals too. The more the merrier.
