MN: Pawlenty Revives Push Against Illegal Immigrants

Pawlenty Revives Push Against Illegal Immigrants

    ST. PAUL (AP) ―
Gov. Tim Pawlenty wants to crack down on illegal immigrants again -- two years after he proposed a similar package that lawmakers dismissed.

The Republican governor signed executive orders on Monday to give state agents a role in enforcing immigration law and reviewing millions of driver's license photos for possible fraud.

Pawlenty also proposed several measures that lawmakers would have to approve, including stiffer penalties for identity theft and a ban on so-called sanctuary ordinances that prevent police from asking about immigration status.

Minnesota's Democrat-controlled Legislature is unlikely to go along.

Sen. Patricia Torres Ray says he is bringing back a divisive issue as the 2008 election cycle is heating up. The Minneapolis Democrat says his proposals are not a serious response to illegal immigration.

So this dismisses they're doing it for the votes crap. They fear this issue and don't want it brought up. They don't want to answer of their support of illegals. It's sad they sent our industry base overseas out sourced the promised service jobs then open the borders for the rest of the jobs. Shame on the dumb America pubic for allowing it..

I got this from someone in Minnesota (Yeah for Pawlenty!):

The initiative is composed of two parts, part one signed into effect
today by Executive Order and a second part requiring legislation.

    Part 1.
    1. Law enforcement to work with ICE.
    2. E-Verify required for all state government employment.
    3. Search state drivers licenses for fraud (with photo matching).
    4. State law enforcement to receive training on immigration and crime.

    Pawlenty did mention Sec. 287g.

    * The State will "team with ICE through an Agreement of Cooperation
in Communities to Enhance Safety and Security (ACCESS).
    * State law enforcement will participate in the Criminal Alien
Program ( CAP ) and will hold in jail criminal aliens until a final
order of removal has been received (no longer let out to the community).
    * State law enforcement will participate in federal Document and
Benefit Fraud Task Forces (DBFTFs) eliminating identity theft and fraud.
    * Minnesota will share in asset forfeiture of ICE forfeited assets
    and joint operations.
    * The state will participate in Operation Community Shied against
    gangs, racketeering, and human smuggling.
    * The State will participate in Operation Predator dealing with
    child predators.
    * Immigration Cross-Designation for selected state law enforcement
officers authorized by the Immigration and Nationality Act.

    Part 2.
    1. Prohibit "sanctuary cities" (if no legislative ban, then cut state
aid to city by 10% every year).
    2. Improve human trafficking laws.
    3. Penalize employers ($5,000 fine and suspend/revoke business
license -- city use of E-Verify as good faith effort).
    4. Increase penalty for ID theft.
    5. Make law "aggravated forgery" to use fraudulent documents for ID
purposes --any forms required by federal Form I-9.

The Q & A questions likely indicates the opposition. It seemed only
the open borders news elites and friends said anything -included
    commentary followed by a question.

Our dear friend of the StarTribune suggested the plan
was racist. He noted that all but 2-3 of the people standing by the
podium with the Governor were White. Coleman (or the STrib) can't
    come to grips with "illegal".

Pat Kessler of WCCO TV started it off by asking what were the
numbers of illegals and what has changed now where we need to make
these changes? When will there be enough??

The Chicano Latino Affairs Council of Minnesota ( CLAC ) handed out
their version of a press release. Nothing new. Amnesty, more visas,
more family reunification, access to all education, health care and
etc. And the state economy needs them.
