    WorldAgExpo--Tulare,CA Feb12-14

This the largest exhibition of agricultural techology in the world. Are there any ALIPAC activists who would be able to attend and gain some ideas? It drew 100,000 people last year from 67 countries.

I'm tired of seeing arguments about how much American industries--like agriculture--need illegal immigrant workers. If US farms cannot compete in the global marketplace, lack of illegal, lowpaid workers, is one of the least of the reasons.

The biggest challenge to US agriculture is from agribusinesses that locate where they can pay workers only a few dollars a day. Farmworker groups in the US have been effectively pricing themselves--and US farmers-- out of the marketplace. Other industialized countries have moved ahead with mechanical harvesting devices

I recently watched a History Channel program in its Modern Marvels series titled, "Farming Technology." One featured story was the progress of wheat harvesting beginning with Cyrus MyCormick's mechanical reaper 170 years ago. Gardually more and more human labor was eliminated in the progress from reaper to threshing machine to modern combine. This innovative progress has put North American farmers (OK, I'm not forgetting Canada!) in the position to act as the emegency food supplier when famine or disaster strikes around the world.

I guess the upshot of this is that other nations, making more rapid progress, will assume more of that burden.
A video of the "Farming Technology" program is available.

"From the field to the table, FARMING TECHNOLOGY follows the journey of food produced on a modern, "big ag" farm to illustrate how far farming has come from its traditional roots. From the controversial use--but undeniable impact--of genetically engineered seeds to the $100,000 machines that can do more work in a day than an army of workers could accomplish in a week, MODERN MARVELSTM examines the technological tools that have propelled the industry to a crossroads of declining returns, higher yields and the demise of family farms."

My Dad said he was going to call Feinstein and inviter her to come. We'll see.
