Border Patrol agents in Carrizo Springs set a pair of records Saturday, seizing more than nine tons of marijuana.

Agents set the record for the largest single marijuana seizure ever in the Del Rio Sector at about 8:20 a.m. Saturday when they stopped a tractor-trailer pulling two large metal tanks. Inside, agents found nearly 12,000 pounds of pot.

Two hours later, an agent in the same area seized more than 6,000 pounds of pot, putting the total seizures for Saturday at 18,665 pounds and setting a record for most pot seized in a single day.

The agent stopped an 18-wheeler pulling a flatbed loaded with what appeared to be pallets of industrial lime sacks. But, according to Border Patrol, the sacks were fakes concealing plywood compartments filled with marijuana.

Agents arrested the drivers of both vehicles and turned them, and the drugs, over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
