Mormon-Owned Paper Stands With Immigrants

SALT LAKE CITY — Joseph A. Cannon is nobody’s liberal. His résumé reads as if it belongs to a delegate to the Republican National Convention, which, incidentally, he was in 2004.

Patricia Dark, the editor of El Observador, a Spanish-language paper.
He was an official for the Environmental Protection Agency under Ronald Reagan and chairman of the Utah Republican Party. As editor of The Deseret News, he published editorials condemning deficit spending, same-sex marriage and lenient alcohol laws.

So it was something of a head-scratcher, Mr. Cannon said, when his voice mail and e-mail started filling up with messages from people calling him a “liberal freakâ€

Perhaps the paper could write an article concerning faith and law; perhaps the title of the article could be, Picking and Choosing the Laws We Should Support and Enforce.

Unbelievable. When religious doctrine crosses the line into political doctrine, the institution is no longer are religious organization, it's a political action committee. That's right, it means you lose your 501 C 3 status as soon as we have a federal government that will enforce our laws.
