CHARLOTTE COUNTY: An inmate at the Charlotte County jail claims to be a member of the MS-13 gang, one of the most dangerous gangs in the world. NBC2's Brandon Gunnoe sat down with Juan Perez for an exclusive jail house interview.
Juan Perez says he came to America looking for a better life, but deputies soon thought otherwise when they noticed a MS-13 tattoo on his body.
MS-13 is the most feared gang in the world.
Gunnoe: Are you a member of MS-13?
Perez: No, not any more. It's been about five years since I got out. I didn't want to be with them. My family didn't want to see me in a gang anymore. They would kill each other so I got out. I don't have a father so I have to take care of my family.
Perez says he joined the gang for a sense of family at the age of fifteen. He says he got out a few years later.
Perez: That's when all the problems started. That's when the gangs started fighting and one day they stabbed me in the arm. I regretted it and I went home. A priest came to my house. I started going to church. That's when I repented it and when I met my wife. It changed my life and I started to work."
Gunnoe: You say you're here to start a better life for you and your family. Why should we believe you?
Perez: Through my family and my friends they know that I'm here to work and they know that I'm here to provide for my family.
Perez was arrested earlier this month for allegedly breaking into a teenage girl's room and molesting her.
Gunnoe: You're charged with molesting a teenage girl and if that's true why did you do that? Why did you sacrifice being able to come over here and make a better life for you and your family?
Perez: I do regret it. I didn't mean for it to happen. When she would see that we were outside she would pass by and blow us kisses.
We asked Perez if he would ever join MS-13 again.
Perez: Yes, I probably would but I'd probably be dead now. I don't want to destroy my life anymore.
Juan Perez insists that there is no MS-13 gang activity in Charlotte County.
Right now his biggest fear is being deported to Guatemala. Perez says he spent over $18,000 to have himself, his wife and his brother-in-law smuggled into The U.S.
His day in court is early next month.

I am willing to bet this guy will be out on our streets in no time at all. I am trying to figure out how hardened criminals can catch so many breaks and people like me get get a ticket just for forgetting to put my seatbelt on. Ironic isn't it? US laws are a joke for people who have no intention of following the law, and the innocent have to watch every little thing.

He is full of it. All he is worried about is the money he spent on smugglers well its like going to a casino and gambling. You take that chance and in his case broke the law more than once. He should not get a break and get deported back to Guatamala. We have enough of our own gang members and past gang members. He is not needed here.
