Man pleads no contest to hiring illegal immigrants
By Gazette News Services

MISSOULA - A Butte man has been fined $5,000 and sentenced to five years of probation after pleading no contest to employing previously deported illegal immigrants.

Magdaleno Barragan, 45, entered his no contest plea to unlawful employment of aliens Monday before U.S. Magistrate Jeremiah Lynch in Missoula.

Prosecutors say Barragan employed at least three illegal aliens at his Melaque Mexican restaurants between January and March 2006. All three Mexican nationals were deported in early 2007.

In May of 2007, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents found the same three illegal aliens again working for Barragan, one at a Belgrade restaurant and two in Butte.
