N.C.: Triad Sheriffs Speak On Federal Immigrant Program

Triad Sheriffs Speak On Federal Immigrant Program

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The crackdown on illegal aliens in the Piedmont is growing, and so is the fear among Hispanic members of the community.

The Guilford County Sheriff's Department is the latest to apply for the federal program known as ICE -- Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Created in March 2003, Immigration and Customs Enforcement is the largest investigative branch of the Department of Homeland Security, according to its Web site. The site says ICE's goal is "to more effectively enforce our immigration and customs laws and to protect the United States against terrorist attacks."

WXII 12's Bill O'Neil spent Thursday talking with members of the Hispanic community and two local sheriffs -- Guilford County Sheriff B.J. Barnes and Alamance County Sheriff Terry Johnson.

Thanks for the info Jean! The video clip for WXII was great!
We are so very lucky to have law enforcement in NC willing to do this job. Maybe if the action starts from the ground up someone in state and federal government will actually see fit to do their jobs too? If not I believe these local law enforcement and city/county officials may find some openings to fill next election!
