NAACP Poised to Vote on Resolution Calling Tea Party 'Racist'

The NAACP is poised to vote Tuesday on a resolution to condemn the Tea Party movement as racist, despite claims from Tea Partiers that the measure is just a political ploy.

The nation's leading civil rights groups was taking up the language at its annual convention in Kansas City. The resolution was expected to say the NAACP would "repudiate the racism of the Tea Parties" and stand against the movement's attempt to "push our country back to the pre-civil rights era."

But the nearby St. Louis Tea Party had an all-hands-on-deck response to the NAACP's plan. The group has drafted a resolution of its own condemning the civil rights group for reducing itself to a "bigoted" and "partisan attack dog organization."

In a matter of hours, the St. Louis group fired off to the NAACP the statement demanding the organization withdraw its "bigoted, false and inflammatory" resolution. The missive accused the NAACP of resorting to political tactics and urged the IRS to reconsider whether it can continue to qualify for tax-exempt status.

Tea Party organizers routinely defend themselves against charges of racism, disavowing racially charged signs that appear in their protest crowds and provide fodder for Tea Party critics. The NAACP resolution, first reported by the Kansas City Star, was expected to make reference to an incident in March when Tea Party protesters allegedly hurled racial epithets at black lawmakers on Capitol Hill ahead of a health care vote. Tea Party members afterward challenged that account and no evidence was produced to show any racist attacks.

St. Louis Tea Party organizer Bill Hennessy wrote on the group's website Tuesday that the Tea Party stands for smaller government and fiscal responsibility, and accused the NAACP of abandoning black America.

"When you look at the crime and poverty and family breakdown of the African-American community ... you see a half-century of failure by the NAACP," he wrote. "None of those persistent problems was caused by the Tea Party movement, yet the principles of the Tea Party are exactly what's needed to wind down the multi-generational destruction in the African-American community.

"The NAACP was once a vital weapon in the war against segregation and oppression. All that's left is a bigoted and malicious shell that does far more harm than good for people who need a break," he wrote.

Fellow St. Louis Tea Party organizer Dana Loesch accused the NAACP of morphing into a political organization.

"They no longer prioritize civil rights," she told Fox News.

This is the funniest thing I've ever heard! A racist organization calling another organization racist! NAACP leaders are stuck on stupid!

They have played the race/victim card so many times reality escapes them.

So they pass a resolution Now what? This country always has racist elements in it anyway on both sides. You can't resolution or shame a racist. Since this a$$ has been playing president, there is more division in this country than ever before. But that is his agenda. Divide us. He is pissing whites off and he knows it.

Michelle is calling on them to do what? Why Michelle Obama? This person actually thinks that they can take away American citizens guns? Just think, this is not just one liberal trained, anti-American sheeple, there are plenty of them out there. Simple minded, easily led and lied to, and mainly ones who want ultimate control over others for perceived injustices, which did not happen to them. Didn't we use to lock away people like this? Geez, it would be good to do so now.

And what has the NAACP said about the new black panthers? Now THAT is racist!

Lemoyne, Pa. - NAACP (web | news) leaders are concerned over the timing of a rate hike at the Lemoyne Swimming Pool.

The decision to increase prices by a few dollars each visit was made just a few days after residents reportedly made comments that minorities are causing problems at the pool.

Last week a woman reportedly said that lifeguards are afraid to discipline minorities. Another man this week reportedly told borough leaders that people from outside the borough were creating a very unpleasant atmosphere. He was also quoted in the Patriot News as saying that borough officials should raise rates if they want to keep the "criminal element" out. ABC 27 Talkback:

"If they're raising the prices of the pool because they need the money, that's one thing," said NAACP President Stan Lawson. "But if they're raising the prices of the pool to keep minorities out, that's another."

But borough leaders insist the decision was made to combat overcrowding and to encourage people to use other nearby pools. They said they had no idea just how popular their pool would become.

"When you have a limited supply and an overwhelming demand one way to try to reduce that is to increase prices," said Borough Manager Robert Ilhein.

Borough Council President John Judson called the residents' choice of words "poor" but said he was "delighted" they came forward with safety concerns.

He said police will increase patrols around the pool.

"If there is any evidence of racial profiling by an employee they will be dismissed," Judson said. "We have zero tolerance for that."

Lawson said he plans to ask the state's Human Relations Commission to investigate.

What is so foolish about this claim by the NAACP, about the pool prices being raised, is that it also affects poor white people too....not just black people can be poor you know NAACP!

Maybe movie theaters should come under scrutiny because they now charge so much, and it keeps out poor minorities (also keeps out the poor whites, I should know have not been inside a theater in about 10 years), scrutinize zoo's, they charge an arm and a leg. Really....

I hope, along with National Council of the Race, that the NAACP goes down in flames, and is never heard from again. This nation does not need national councils to promote their own brand of payback racism.

Never have I seen such division and anger by so many people. Something is seriously wrong with this picture.

I dont understand where they are coming from with this. There are Americans of all skin colors at the Tea Partys!
