House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) falsely claimed Wednesday that Democrats have “never” denied that there is a “crisis” on the U.S.-Mexico border — a statement directly contradicted by the words of multiple party leaders just months ago.

“Well, let me just say this. We have never not said that there was a crisis — there is a humanitarian crisis at the border, and some of it provoked by the actions taken by the administration,” Pelosi stated during her weekly press conference in the Capitol Visitor Center on Wednesday.
“What is happening at the border is tragic and we hope to address some of that in the disaster supplemental,” the California Democrat added. “And we understand our responsibility to secure our border.”

Pelosi’s remarks bear a stark contrast to what the House Speaker and other Democrats have previously said about the situation at the border, referring to it as a “manufactured crisis” by President Donald Trump.

During a joint press conference in January, Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) accused the president of using the “backdrop of the Oval Office to manufacture a crisis, stoke fear, and divert attention.”

Further, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said of the situation at the Southern border after a visit to El Paso, Texas: “The first, most dramatic thing we found was there is no crisis.”

President Trump signed a congressional bill to avert a second partial government shutdown and declared a national emergency to build a wall along the border after Democrats used to back the funding required for its construction. The president also declared a national emergency at the southern border and used his executive authority to go around Congress to obtain more money to build the security barrier. “The current situation at the southern border presents a border security and humanitarian crisis that threatens core national security interests and constitutes a national emergency,” he said at the time.

Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security said earlier this month that illegal border crossing surged to a decade-high in April with nearly 100,000 crossers arrested.

Trump may be the one going t--- up, I'm afraid. Pelosi and Co. will finagle some broad sweeping amnesty in exchange for merely nominal border control.

It's a real tragedy for our country that "Pelosi and Co." are in charge of the US Congress because they won control of the US House of Representatives in 2018, but that's what the American voters by a vast margin of 9 million votes wanted in an election where the top 2 issues were healthcare and immigration, and that's the DemoQuack views of those 2 issues that won the election, not ours. Republicans are the minority in the United States electorate and not all Republicans even agree with all of our positions. So, when we didn't work our asses off to maintain control of the US House of Representatives and pick up 9 more seats in the US Senate so we could pass the bills we want and need to fix the problem, we defeated ourselves seems to me.

I don't think enough people in our cause understood the epic importance of the 2018 Midterms or the obvious and predictable outcomes if Republicans lost them, as we did and did so for absolutely no rational reason whatsoever.

It's very sad, actually, the emotion of all great tragedies.

You keep harping on this like an old broken record player. Trump, McConnell and Paul Ryan didn't exactly instill confidence in the American people with their flighty (fickle & irresponsible) and inconsistent immigration messages. Trump's many lies also probably had something to do with his failure to excite the necessary American voters.

Time to quit whining about the past and time to hold Trump and the U.S. Congress to task!

Oh sure, please hold him and them to "task". That seems to be working really well for Democrats and Illegal Aliens. In my opinion, he's milked Executive Power on this issue dry as a bone. He still has diplomatic and international powers, maybe something will come of that. He won the 9th Circuit appeal on Remain in Mexico, and AG Barr was down in Central America laying down the law, so maybe something positive will come from that.

    Laying down the law----like this?

AG Barr promises continued support to Northern Triangle

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador (AP) — U.S. Attorney General William Barr said Thursday that funding under his authority for policing in Central America's Northern Triangle is not at risk under the Trump administration's promise to cut off those countries not doing enough to control migration.

Barr spoke after meeting in San Salvador with his counterparts from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala.
Barr said he met with President Donald Trump before the trip. "He supported my coming down here, making clear that we remain committed to this effort and we remain committed to the funding that has been supporting these law enforcement efforts," the attorney general said.

Barr said he and his counterparts discussed expanding efforts against the region's violent gangs such as MS-13, as well as increasing the attention to corruption, financial crimes and human trafficking.

Unlike Trump, who has been critical of Central American governments, Barr said he was so impressed with their cooperation against transnational criminal organizations that he decided to make the region his first foreign visit.
