Staff Writer

January 10, 2010

ASHEBORO, N.C. - Randolph County sheriffs arrested and charged four Winston-Salem men with attempted murder of an Asheboro family Saturday evening.

Authorities say Evaristo Hernandez, 32, was returning to his home at 1722 Stallion Trail in Asheboro with his two nieces from a Monroe flea market where he is a vendor around 5:00 p.m. Saturday. One of his nieces got out of their car to unlock a gate at the end of the driveway when three men, one armed, approached the car. The suspects knocked the niece to the ground, and the victim reported that the armed man fired shots.

Hernandez and his two nieces, Angelica Mondragon, 18, and Mirian Mondragon, 17, were uninjured during the incident, and no property was stolen.

Four suspects fled in a sports utility vehicle, and a deputy stopped the car a few miles from the incident.

The suspects were charged with three counts each of attempted murder and their bond was set at $1 million each.

The suspects are:

Christian Dominguez, 19, of 1505 Lomond St., Winston-Salem

Mario De Jesus Navarro-Cruz, 17, of 1433 Hutton St., Winston-Salem

Luis Miquel Martinez of 328 E. Divenshire St., Winston-Salem

Raul Benitez, Jr., 17, of 338 Barnes Road, Winston-Salem

The four suspects will appear in Randolph District Court on Jan. 11.
