Easley: Won't 'grind my heel' in immigrants' faces

Gov. Mike Easley says it’s in the state’s interests to allow undocumented immigrants to attend community colleges if they qualify and if they pay out-of-state tuition. That essentially puts him in accord with a new community college system policy – and in opposition to both Democrats and Republicans running for governor to replace him. In a phone interview this morning, here’s what Easley said:

“Here’s my position. The people we are talking about were brought here as babies and young children through no fault of their own. They distinguished themselves throughout our K-12 (public school) system. Now, I’m not willing to grind my heel in their faces and slam the door on them. The Community College System has to be open to them in order for them to be productive members of our society and help North Carolina and America compete in the world economy.â€

Just as we suspected. Easley is behind this whole thing and trying to cast blame on unelected boards education boards he helped appoint!

In an interview with Jack Betts of the Charlotte Observer, he said it's in the state's interest to allow them to attend if they qualify and pay out-of-state tuition rates.

Easley's take on the issue contradicts that of the five announced gubernatorial candidates.

He said he thinks they may see the issue differently if elected, and he admits that many North Carolina residents may not like his take on it either.

"It's going to be a hell of a Christmas," he said. "Everybody in the world is going to be picketing the mansion."

He won't grind his heel in the faces of illegals, but he has no qualms about doing so to the people of NC. He admitted that they would be angry and yet does it anyway. His actions prove, once again, that our elected officials are not representing the will of the American people. Get that idiot out of office.

Time to put him in the Un-Employment line folks. Any politician that would rather grind his heels into the average citizens face needs to be on the street looking for work

Mr. Easley- You won't grind your heel in the faces of Illegal, criminal, freeloaders who get a free pass on the backs of US taxpayers, sucking resources, getting free medical care at the closest emergency room so yet another hospital can be start on the road to bankruptcy and/or raising the rates of LEGAL folks who pay.
You are helping to create North Carolina as the center of the universe for being the worlds welfare state/country, even to criminals.
Now, even more will come, even the drug runners, the rapists and those who repeatedly drink and drive and kill our citizens.
They know the loopholes and have personally come here to be leeches.

you have no qualms about screwing the people of NC.

Do liberals have many books published? If so, please let me know. The problem is when it comes to the facts, they fall on their faces, so they need to rely on the rhetoric that conservatives are mean-hearted, non-caring, baby killers so we need to take care of the poor illegal's.

My church helped a family from South America who had an infant. We housed them and supported them and then they went home! My church collects ten's of thousands of dollars to fund trips to Africa to fund building homes and schools. This is how it should be handled, not supporting criminals from within out once great country.

There's a difference between helping those in need and 12 million illegal's using our country as a welfare state. There's genocide taking place in Africa and we don't help them! They are certainly in need more than the Mexican's. It's all about greed and big business controlling the Politicians. We all know that DC and those in it is a joke and this supposed democracy is fixed, oiled, corrupt and greased by big money.

There's complete frustration and disappointment that a bunch of PC pansies run the Government. If we changed some of the ridiculous alien protecting laws...oh and eliminating special interest and big business lining the politicians wallets wouldn't hurt either, along with real representation and not a small group of politicians running the country as they prefer, not the people.

We're so focused on inclusion and accepting all other cultures and religions that we're losing our identity.
"True" American's aren't mean and heartless, they would get the back off their shirt to a friend.
I do think inclusion and embracing other cultures (at least to the extent we are doing) has gone way too far. Embracing other cultures is fine, IF we don't lose our own.
I'm angry because we're being invaded and conquered, without a shot being fired.

Big business ignores this too- China's unfair trade practices, subsidizing manufacturing, keeping currency values below market value is moving more US jobs overseas. Economics 101 states that free trade is necessary but how about Fair Free Trade. And the Political Machine is going nothing about it; not to mention the defective lead filled junk toys being shipped and accepted by us.

Different topic but a strong analogy. Europe is being overtaken. Just as we're letting Mexico conquer the US, the radical Muslims are doing the same to Europe as Mexico is doing to us.
While Europe Slept" about Muslims taking over Europe from within. Scary stuff. How Muslims move to liberal Europe to access welfare and send the money back to Saudi Arabia and the like to further fund and spread their religion across the world. How Allah explicitly commands and teaches the use of violence against non-Muslims who resist conversion or surrender. Yes, there are good Muslims, of course but even they are threatened by the extremists. This is too big of a topic but worth mentioning.It's probably too late for Europe but hopefully someone in power will wake up here, although at this rate, after a few years of speaking in Spanish, the US infidels may then have to deal with being conquered yet again.

I think it's because I do care...for my country and our current way of life. Those that don't care are too busy driving their fancy cars and drinking $5 lattes to care. They will only care if someone changes their way of life or a drug cartel murders his family...just because they can. They just don't yet see the changes coming as they're either too self-absorbed or too lazy to do the research. They have illegal's cutting their grass and building their new additions. Why would they want our laws enforced? Because they then would have to pay %15 more for the job and award the job to the carpenter down the street who's out of work because he's constantly outbid by the illegal's. But I'm just being "mean".
Does being Christian mean making personal rights the priority, even if someone is breaking the law? Does this trump National Security? Do we let anyone cross our US borders, even if they are criminals, MS13 gang members or terrorists?

But this isn't really a problem as they just came to the US for a "better way of life" and to feed their poverty-stricken families. A generation ago, we would have had our military on the border.

Vicente Fox states, "Mexico is where Mexican's are". Enough said. Now Calderon is saying the same thing.

Analogy- ask 100 illegal's to move into your house (if you really want to help). Your house can't function with 100+ occupants. You can't stock enough food, cook food fast enough, provide enough beds and your Septic System couldn't deal with the volume of waste.
It's the SAME thing with the US. We can't quadruple out population without our systems and infrastructure collapsing.

I guess I do feel that I follow the rules, pay taxes, try to "cross the T's and dot the I's", I pay and continue to "pay my dues" so, yes, the criminal illegal's don't belong here, didn't earn the right to belong here and should get the hell out!
The one well discussed solution- start penalizing Big Business and the problem would resolve itself. Very simple but big business, business lobbyist and disgusting, nauseating liberals and the media and whacko Moviestars (yeah, they know everything and are so wealthy, of course they don't have to worry about an extra 15% tax rate while they live in their fantasylands) basically run the country.

I guess the message is we should now raise our kids to ignore all the rules, break the laws and do what the hell they please. Want a free ride, free education, free healthcare, sure! You don't need to earn it, you're entitled to it! ...then again, that's just what the liberals are all about- Socialism and wealthy folks should share their wealth via high taxation and convincing us we can't survive without government help and telling us what we need.
Those who can't admit that at least some of this should be of concern, yes, I don't understand as my mind isn't wired to be a Politically Correct pansy without respect for the law or without convictions.
Most of the country is so short-sighted and has such short memories and are fine as long as they get their People's Magazine subscription delivered on time.

The November 7, 2007, memo to all community college presidents was issued from the office of the NC Community College System President Martin Lancaster. Since this was a decision made solely by the Community College System, you should direct your concerns to President Lancaster at LANCASTER@ncccs.cc.nc.us or by calling 919.807.6950.

The letter that has been reported and referenced by the Community College System Office as their basis for their most recent decision was written in the office of the Attorney General in 1997 and had nothing to do with immigration but instead dealt with the issue of whether or not a convicted felon could attend a community college when ordered by the court to do so.

A big fat recall petition of the governor would probably send a powerful message to all pro illegal politicians.
