Letter: Block amnesty for the illegals

Morganton, NC - The definition of "illegal" is against the law. Individuals and companies who violate the law should be punished and not rewarded.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, as well as President Obama, want to reward illegals. They are now in the process of trying to grant amnesty to more than 12 million illegals.

It is estimated that more than 7 million are employed in the United States. These illegals generally do not spend their income here, but, rather, they send it back to their native country. It is estimated that what is sent out of the United States is in the billions. This is dollars that are not put into the U.S. economy.

Many of these illegals hold jobs in the construction industry. These jobs are relatively high-paying employment. I believe many U.S. citizens would be glad to have some of these jobs.

The Immigration Department should continue to enforce our laws, but with Janet Napolitano as head of Homeland Security promoting amnesty, we are in trouble.

Employers should have the right to E-Verify citizenship both before and after they have been hired.

I encourage each and everyone to write, e-mail, fax or call your senator or congressman and express outrage over any amnesty program.
