TN - Bill would restrict driver's license tests
April 06, 2009 04:02 EDT
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A proposal that would limit written driver's license tests in Tennessee to English and four other languages is scheduled to be heard by the Senate.
The measure sponsored by Sen. Bill Ketron, a Murfreesboro Republican, is up for a full Senate vote Monday evening. The measure passed the Senate in 2007, but failed in the House Public Safety Subcommittee.
That panel is scheduled to hear the bill this week. Ketron says he expects it to pass because the state Safety Department does not oppose the bill.
Opponents of the measure say it's unnecessary because road tests are already given only in English.
