New laws signal more attacks on immigrant workers
By Teresa Gutierrez

In yet another blow to immigrants as well as a major concession to the right-wing agenda, the Bush administration announced last week significant measures related to immigration policy.
Department of Homeland Security officials announced on Aug. 10 a new package of immigration plans that the government stated would be backed up by increased raids at workplaces. (New York Times, Aug.
According to the National Immigration Law Center the plans include:
• an increase in the militarization of the U.S./Mexican border (in July, the Senate added $3 billion to a homeland security bill, most to be allocated to the border);
• expanded detention facilities with no review of current widespread human rights violations;
• a reduction in access to court hearings to challenge erroneous deportation orders;
• “streamliningâ€Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

The only solution to job insecurity, home foreclosures, the lack of affordable and quality health care is a massive fight back of all workers and oppressed.

Re: New laws signal more attacks on immigrant workers
This presumes that undocumented workers have broken some kind of law.
Someone please tell me where these people believe that "undocumented workers" haven't broken any laws? Where is the reasoning behind statements like this?
The only solution to ICE raids against immigrants, to job insecurity, home foreclosures, the lack of affordable and quality health care, growing police brutality and repression, and the war in Iraq is a massive and militant fight back of all workers and oppressed.

I am an American worker. If I found out that there was a clerical mistake on MY SOCIAL SECURITY account, I would kiss my boss for letting me know! God forbid someone else get credited for my hard work. So the scare tactic about hurting American workers is BS. I'm not scared at all; in fact, I welcome the chance to fix the clerical error! LOL!

i do not believe there has been much of an increase in deportations. king jorge is trying to use smoke and mirrors... again. i want to see a real effort to rid this country of ILLEGAL invaders. like buses full to the brim headed south, our military on the border, no more social services to illegals and their illegal anchors, fines/jail to those that employ illegals that's just for starters. what is going on now is just politics.

[quote]For decades, employers have ignored notices from the Social Security Administration stating that workers’ names and social security numbers did not match government records. This is called “no match.â€

As long as hispanic workers have a genuine SS number, they won't have any problems. Just more scare tactics being stirred up by the illegals and their supporters.
