Since it is supposedly "pro-bono" the other clients are picking up the costs.

Regardless, the attorney for the illegal alien is only one part of the cost. All the court costs, janitors, secretaries, bailiffs, and such are born by the taxpayers.

You can send someone a countesy notice alerting them of a future notice, but a notice has to have a specific date and time to appear. That's universal law in the United States for any type of legal "notice". DOJ is incompetent. These government lawyers are useless and don't know crap which is probably why they work for the government to begin with.

One of the complaints is that the illegal alien relocated, and so they didn't receive the notice with the date and place. There must be an obligation for them to notify the court when they change mailing addresses. If they fail to do that, they should lose when the court is convened without them!

That's why you send your notice either through a service delivered by the Sheriffs Department and/or certified mail, return receipt requested. That way you know if they've fled and are now a fugitive on the run. But we obviously have incompetent idiots with no practical legal experience running this show of sad sacks which is 80% of the reason it is failing. DOJ is too incompetent to handle deportations. ICE removed 227,000 illegal aliens last year. Imagine that. 5,000 ICE agents caught, apprehended, processed and REMOVED 227,000 illegal aliens last year, most of them violent criminals. 95,000 employees of the US DOJ issued only 87,000 deportation orders and that was up 30% from 2016. Beginning to see the problem??!!!

DOJ is the problem. Get them out of it, completely. That way DHS can issue the hearing schedule immediately, conduct the deportation hearing within 24 hours of arrest and hand them off to ICE and ORR for immediate removal from our country.

Sounds familiar. Oh wait, you sound like the illegal immigrant advocates that want to get rid of ICE. I don't trust Ms. Nielsen any further than I can throw her. She's obviously overburdened the way it is. So, I say no thank you!

They all have their own function and obviously smarter minds than yours and mine have decided this is the way to go. DHS couldn't do what DOJ is doing any better than they can. This is all about resources and the law, not Judy's World where everything runs according to Judy's rule. DOJ or DHS, it doesn't matter because our written immigration laws won't change based on who is running the show.

    Legal notice is the law.

State and local law enforcement arrest almost 13 million people every year. No one left the jail house without legal notice of their court date.
