I have heard a lot of hateful, horrible things before, but this sure takes the cake.

I'm going to a Minuteman meeting Sunday here in Colorado, because I've been asked to join.

I know several Minutemen here, and have come to admire their courage and sense of duty to this country. Most of the ones I know have been in the military and understand what discipline and duty are.

I'm going to check the Minuteman posting board to make sure they know about this.

This is absolute nonsense and William is right it does put us at risk.
It seems to me that they want to incite a violent reaction.
If you take the time to read any Minuteman website you will see that racist and violent people are not allowed and many groups do a background check on you.
They make us sound like a bunch of wanna be warriors but I fought in Nam as a US Marine and I can tell you I had enough of that stuff.
They never mention the aid we give to illegals that come to us for water or food or emergency aid.
I was helping a lady one time who was going into heat exhaustion and I refused to let Border Patrol take her until I was sure she was going to be OK, I didn't want her being put in the back of a hot truck and I have more medical training the he did.
Anytime I am on the border I carry a first aid kit and extra food and water and I will and have given aid to anyone who needs it.

"New York is an immigrant city, and no freedom-loving, justice-seeking New Yorker will tolerate the culture of hatred and anti-immigrant fascism that spewed by the politically insignificant and immoral Minutemen," stated Teresa Gutierrez, a Mexican-American and leader with the NY May 1st Coalition
Here we go again..latin jerks are not able to separate legal from illegal and chalk it all up to racism..THEY ARE THE RACISTS!! The people of NY need to wake up to what is in their own city.

    politically insignificant
    ?

    This is good news.

Why not ignore this then like the raggedy guy down on the corner hollering the world is over.

Now the citizens of the US that support law and order are nazis and fascists. We have seen this "demonization" of the opposition with the strong argument in the newsgroups for so many years. Soon these scofflaws will be irrelevent. And back home.

The Minuteman Project plans to hold a commemorative service in honor of the victims of the 911 terrorist attacks.

    Dear Americans,

There will be an attempt by at least three known domestic terrorist groups to prevent The Minuteman Project from conducting a “permitted” commemorative service in honor of the 911 victims and their next of kin on Wednesday, July 26 at 12 Noon at “ground zero”, the former site of the WTC towers.

The “call to hostility” against all minutemen/women is pasted below (after this message). It is replete with vilifying lies, and was launched over the internet yesterday in an attempt to draw as many anti-American rabble-rousers into NYC as possible to prevent The Minuteman Project, and 911 survivor’s organizations, from engaging in a commemorative ceremony at the site of the destroyed WTC towers.

The Minuteman Project respectfully requests that each of you Americans either come to join (and protect) us at the WTC site on July 26, or contact NYC Mayor Bloomberg and DEMAND that all protection under the law be provided to The Minuteman Project participants and guests. The guest list will include several friends and relatives of the victims of that horrific attack almost five years ago. These survivors of the 911 victims should not be the target of menacing thugs with sinister intentions.

These domestic terrorist groups are known to dress in terrorist-like garb, including face masks to conceal their identities, and to forcefully engage in the literal suppression of the rights of American citizens to peacefully and freely assemble and speak. They do not fly any U.S. flags, but generally carry the anarchist, communist and Mexican flags. Occasionally, the PLO flag is displayed by several persons wearing Al Qaeda type garb. It is very common for these radical, fringe elements of society to hurl lethal objects (frozen cans of soda, rocks, bottles, etc.) at ralliers at patriotic events. Yes, the premeditated intention of the groups listed in the “By” line below is to strip away the First Amendment from anyone “they” choose, especially those who would assemble behind, and pledge allegiance to, the flag of the United States of America.

The Minuteman Project has no intention of backing down from these violent anarchists. To withdraw in the face of these evil-doers would guarantee that the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America would be available ONLY to the meanest thugs carrying the biggest clubs. That is neither acceptable nor an option if we are to preserve this nation as a civilized society governed under the rule of law.

The Minuteman Project asks for your support and your help in defending us, and America, from the hate-groups responsible for orchestrating the intentional disruption of our assembly in NYC. These ugly groups, listed after the “By” line below, are truly some of the most pathetic and despicable “hate groups” of the 21st century.

    Thank you. Semper Fidelis.

New Yorkers Say No to the Minutemen!
Protests Scheduled Against July 26th Visit of Anti-Immigrant Hate Group to WTC

    By Theresa Gutierrez, New York May 1st Coalition, 917-328-6470;
    Carlos Canales, The Long Island Workplace Project, 516-565-5377;
    Berna Ellorin, BAYAN Philippines, 646-479-1605

July 21, 2006, New York-- New York immigrant communities and immigrant rights supporters are gearing up for massive counter-protests against the Minutemen's visit to the World Trade Center on Wednesday, July 26th. The New York May 1st Coalition, a broad formation of immigrant organizations, labor groups, and anti-war advocates, will hold a protest at the site of the Minutemen's anti-immigrant rally location beginning at 11am, this Wednesday. The group is calling on pro-immigrant supporters to meet at the corner of Church Street and Broadway in downtown Manhattan.

"New York is an immigrant city, and no freedom-loving, justice-seeking New Yorker will tolerate the culture of hatred and anti-immigrant fascism that spewed by the politically insignificant and immoral Minutemen," stated Teresa Gutierrez, a Mexican-American and leader with the NY May 1st Coalition.

"We are calling on all supporters of immigrants rights to help us send a clear message to those who are continuing the tradition of Neo-Nazi's: GET OUT OF OUR CITY!," Gutierrez continued.

While the Minutemen Project describes itself as an American civilian operation intent on deterring illegal crossings at the US-Mexican border, concerned immigrants and citizens across the nation strongly identify it as an anti-immigrant hate group. It is the brainchild Jim Gilchrist, a retired accountant and Vietnam veteran from Orange County, California. Gilchrist has been involved with Neo-Nazi affiliated groups such as the Council of Conservative Citizens. The Minutemen actively recruit in Colorado, California, Texas, New Mexico, New Jersey.

In 2003, Chris Simcox, an anti-immigration militant and co-founder of the Minutemen, was arrested in Colorado for "hunting for Mexicans," with high power hunting rifles.

In a recent California Minutemen activity White supremacists were caught on film with Confederate insignia and Nazi swastikas, giving Nazi salutes.

Pro-immigrant groups and supporters are planning for a broad show of force when the Minutemen hit NYC next week.

Gutierrez added while it is usually the Minutemen's intention to provoke and incite physical violence and confrontation in their anti-immigrant events, it is important to continously expose the Minutemen at their sitings and educate the general public on who the Minutemen are. The New York May 1st Coalition, a network calling for the legalization of all undocumented persons, regardless of their duration of stay in the US, was the main organizer of the historic May 1, 2006 massive demonstration for immigrant rights in Union Square, mobilizing nearly 1 million on the streets, the largest demonstration in New York City history. The coalition also endorsed a national immigrant rights strategizing conference in Washington DC from July 28th-30th convened by the National Immigrant Solidarity Network. (visit www.nohr4437.org)

"As Congress continues with its stall-tactics in the form of not-so-public hearings on the Senate and House bills, we the majority of working people in the US who understand this country and its economy cannot survive without immigrants will not back down on our call for legalization and genuine comprehensive immigration reform. As millions came out on the streets on May 1st, the power of our people's movement will only gain more momentum as unjust and unfair legislation continues to be exposed," Gutierrez ended.

Yes, got this letter earlier this evening....

Curious, do you know a number where I can speak to a human voice with the Minutemen. The New York march next week is right in my back yard, and thinking I could be more help than just showing up.
