Immigration advocates seek delay of new policing policy

MORRISTOWN -- Immigration advocates are appealing to Homeland Security officials to postpone the start of a controversial program that would train and authorize local police to enforce immigration laws.

At a press conference Thursday outside the complex housing municipal offices, including the police department, the advocates argued that the program would lead to racial profiling and alienation between all immigrants in the township and the police.

“These programs create fear in the {immigrant} communities, they create divisions,â€
