Workers in Processing Plant Being Infected with Tuberculosis

A screening of 222 workers at a Tyson chicken processing plant in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, revealed that 41 were infected with tuberculosis, the Oklahoma State Health Department said. The health department sais the infections did not poise any danger to consumers.

Health workers began testing workers at the plant after a worker there was diagnosed with the tuberculosis.

"Initially, I think they selected 18 individuals to test that had the closest amount of contact with the infected individual and they found about half of those to be infected," Oklahoma's Tuberculosis Control Officer Dr. Jon Tillinghast commented. "So they expanded the numbers of individuals to be screened."

Health workers said it was possible that some of the infected workers were exposed years ago from unrelated cases, and were not diagnosed until now. Tillinghast said that tuberculosis is generally treated with six-months of antibiotic treatment.

The health department sais the infections did not poise any danger to consumers.

I am sure they guarantee that.

just emailed that to everyone on my list. It may get a couple more to stop buying Tyson illegal immigrant chicken.

the bad spelling? If they are that sloppy with their article, how careful do you think they are in processing the chickens? I would really like someone from the CDC to REALLY tell me what the chances are of catching TB this way!

I think I will try and cut/paste this and send it to the CDC and see what they say!

I can't say much about someone else's spelling mine leaves a lot to be desired.

No Tyson chicken for me....I bet the TB that they have is the one that is

resistant to the drugs usually used for TB in the past.

TB is contagious as hell....you don't cure it with antibiotics...they have to be QUARANTINED and then cure it with anitbiotics. Get these people out of our country before we have a TB epidemic.

Sounds like a good idea shut tyson down because of TB. If I were a doctor..............
