NOGALES, Ariz. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Nogales found more than one and a-half tons of marijuana hidden in a truck.

The pot was found inside a tractor-trailer rig that was attempting to enter the country form Mexico. Customs and Border Protection said the 139 bales of marijuana were found hidden inside sealed boxes made to look like legitimate manufactured items.

Officials estimate the street value of the drugs at close to $6 million dollars.

"Yeh, kid? Ya wanna joint? First, you gimme fi' dollar."
Extrapolated, that means 3500 pounds of marijuana = $6 million.

No wonder people "invest" in drug smuggling. Two years ago, they said 1000 pounds = $1 million. I've never seen the value of anything else inflate faster than smuggled drugs.

It would be interesting to know just what 'legitimately manufactured items' they were - and where the load was supposed to be unloaded.

I have always entertained the notion that big business was somehow involved in the drug smuggling. There is too much money involved for some company not to be tempted. It would be a very lucrative sideline.
