Spring Valley resident is circulating petition demanding illegal immigrant hire investigation

SPRING VALLEY - A longtime village resident who is outraged about the mayor's hiring of undocumented immigrants for a village project is circulating a petition to demand state and federal investigations into the matter.
Odell Cureton, 76, said he had collected approximately 180 signatures. He hopes to be able to send the signed petition demanding an investigation to state and federal authorities.
"What he did was wrong. He broke federal law," Cureton said this afternoon. "Nobody's above the law."
Darden was criticized for having hired a man who turned out to be an illegal immigrant.
Several other illegal immigrants were on the job at 65A N. Main St. Each laborer earned $10 an hour to remove unusable furniture.
The mayor denied wrongdoing, saying he discussed seasonal labor with a man who had legal identification and who said he had family members who could help.
One of the undocumented immigrants from the job said the mayor came to Route 59 - where day laborers usually wait for work - and asked him to come to the job with nine other men.
The workers were not asked their immigration status by the village.
It is a violation of federal law to hire illegal immigrants.
The village was ordered by the state's Department of Labor to pay each worker an additional $30 per hour.

And since it is a Federal offense to come into this country illegally....hopefully the illegals were arrested too??????????????
God bless this guy for doing this at his age....YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The difference between an immigrant and an illegal alien is the equivalent of the difference between a burglar and a houseguest.
