Oakland: Minutemen protest delayed; wrong info from city
Oakland protest delayed

About a dozen members of the Minutemen anti-illegal immigration organization gathered in Oakland on Thursday to address the City Council, which does not meet until Tuesday.
A planned rally to protest Oakland's status as a "city of refuge" for illegal immigrants was canceled, despite members having traveled from Fremont, Castro Valley and the North Bay.
"We'll be back on the 18th," said spokesman Steve Kemp, who blamed the mix-up on incorrect information provided by the city.
After a series of federal raids in the city and across the Bay area, Oakland officials announced in April that they will not cooperate with any investigation, detention or arrests of illegal immigrants.
The planned Minutemen event would have come a day after immigrant rights advocates rallied in the Fruitvale district and across the nation to protest border policies they say are unfair.
