Obama: Immigration Raids are a Publicity Stunt!!!
Obama: Immigration raids are a publicity stunt
By Eunice Moscoso | Wednesday, September 17, 2008, 11:44 AM
Sen. Barack Obama gave a long interview this week to Maria Elena Salinas, a nightly news anchor at Univision, the nation’s largest Spanish language network.
Salinas asked Obama whether he supports a moratorium on immigration raids.
Here is his answer: “Raids are a publicity stunt, they are a tactic to push people away from focusing on the failures of the immigration system as a whole. What we have to do is to have a comprehensive immigration plan that has strong border security; that cracks down on employers who are taking advantage of undocumented workers…We’ve got to crack down on them, and we’ve got to provide a pathway to citizenship for undocumented workers, making sure that they over time are able to earn their position here in the United States of America.â€

Obama actually sounded almost reasonable until he got to that part about providing a "pathway to citizenship" for illegal invaders.
Why are we obligated as a nation to provide anything to these people, other than a one way bus ticket back to where they came from.
No pathway to citizenship, no amnesty, to excuses! Enforce the law, continue with the raids on those employers who are breaking the law. If we do these things, the illegals will deport through attrition.

If the raids are in fact a poblicity stunt, than I say we need more publicity stunts!

The raids are a publicity stunt and the Bush administration has moved from non enforcement to pretend enforcement.
That being said, I would rather have publicity stunt raids than to return to none at all under McCain or Obama.

My reaction to this is that Obama has attacked and discredited Immigration and Customs by saying their enforcement is of no value other than gimmick. To me, this is the most unAmerican statement he has made to date. After all, these agents are trying to enforce existing immigration law and add to deportation. If this is his attitude, I wonder what he thinks of our Border Patrol agents or if he will support them in cases of border defense.

Agree, but I have to say we citizens are not even responsible for payment of that bus ticket. Agreed VT! However, a bus ticket would be a small price to pay if we could ensure these people would never again set foot on US soil.

That would be something to celebrate!

Lou Dobbs had this on his TV show and he raked Obama over the fact that the brave men and women who work for our law enforcement and border patrol agencies deserve better than to have their work called a "stint".
He was so angry that he could barely contain himself.
He asked how can Obama "lead" the country when part of the job is to be the "head" of enforcing "federal laws"?
Lou just kept saying that we have brave men and women on the border in danger every single day, putting their lives on the line and ICE employees doing their job with dignity and diligence and it made him sick to hear Obama disregard hard working American citizens that way.
