WASHINGTON, D.C. -- During an exclusive one-on-one interview with Action 7 News, President Barack Obama said the country is looking to come down harder on crimes near the border with Mexico.

Obama said he’s very concerned about what’s going on in Mexico and vowed to continue to put more resources into border security.

Last week, the mayor and police chief of Columbus, N.M., were arrested on charges of gun smuggling. But how do you fix a problem when the people hired and elected to help are accused of aiding the drug cartels?

“Obviously, that any U.S. person, whether they’re an elected official or not, if they’re accused of drug running and accused of helping drug cartels, they need to be thrown in jail,â€
