Obama travels to Mexico next month

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Obama said Wednesday that he will travel to Mexico next month as part of a journey that will take him to the Summit of the Americas in Trinidad.

Obama told members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus that the Mexico trip would include meetings with President Felipe Calderon "to discuss the deep and comprehensive US-Mexico relationship, including how the United States and Mexico can work together to support Mexico's fight against drug-related violence and work toward effective, comprehensive immigration reform."

The brief White House account of Obama's meeting with the Hispanic caucus said it lasted about one hour and was "robust and strategic" on the topic of immigration.

It will be Obama's second meeting this year with Calderon, but his first as president. Obama and Calderon met in Washington about a week before the president's inauguration. Earlier this year, Obama traveled to Canada.
