Officers at Falcon Dam border crossing find 5,100 round of ammunition hidden in car

    Friday, May 12th 2017

Officers arrested two men Tuesday after they attempted to cross the border with more than 5,100 round of ammunition, according to the criminal complaint against them.

Raul Gomez Gonzalez and Aaron Benavides Quintanilla attempted to cross the border at Falcon Dam on Tuesday.

Officers searched their car and found boxes of ammunition hidden in the chassis, dashboard and driver's-side door, according to the criminal complaint. They seized 5,105 rounds of ammunition.

Agents with Homeland Security Investigations, a division of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, questioned Gomez and Quintanilla about the ammunition.

Both men admitted to concealing the ammunition in the car during a stop in Roma, according to the criminal complaint.

Gomez is charged with attempting to export ammunition.

Benavides, a Mexican citizen with a valid visa, is charged with unlawfully possessing ammunition.

Both men remain in federal custody.

You're right it doesn't say. It does say this:

Gomez is charged with attempting to export ammunition.
If he's charged by the US for attempting to export, then I guess he was on our side trying to sneak weapons out to Mexico. But again, that's just a guess. The article isn't clear.
