OH: Butler County Sheriff's remarks divisive?

    Sheriff's remarks divisive?

    Hispanic leader says so

    BY SHEILA MCLAUGHLIN | SMCLAUGHLIN@ENQUIRER.COM
Sheriff Rick Jones has a habit of ticking people off with his views on immigration.

    This weekend was no different.

After a recent trip to Cochise County, Ariz., Jones, who is on a national sheriffs committee on immigration issues, said he wanted the public to know exactly what he saw and what his friend Sheriff Larry Dever told him about the Mexican border there.

So, in YouTube-esque fashion, Jones posted a video on his Web site (www.butlersheriff.org/illegals/mex_border.htm).

"Don't believe all these people are coming for a better life," Jones said.

Drug dealers are paying undocumented immigrants to smuggle marijuana and cocaine over the mountains and across the border, he said.

"The illegals are humping this ... over the mountains and bringing it from Mexico into the United States. Once they get across the border in these cities, they can go less than 100 yards and blend into the community. You don't know where they are," Jones said.

Those comments didn't sit well with a group of Hispanic immigrant leaders gathered in Cincinnati through today to discuss solutions to immigration issues in the United States.

"What he does is what others are doing - basically blame the immigrant for the social and economic ills that this country is facing, especially the middle class," said Jorge-Mario Cabrera, director of communications for the National Alliance of Latin American and Caribbean Communities.

"Immigrants are not to blame for the ills, but instead they are being scapegoated."

Cabrera agrees with Jones that the federal government isn't acting fast enough to deal with immigration issues.

But he thinks Jones' outspoken approach is divisive.

"He misses the opportunity like a number of people are doing to be creative and to add a positive contribution to the debate," Cabrera said.

"I don't think expressing frustration and anger is going to do anything."

The fact that the majority of illegal aliens and their supporters are delusional and in denial merely reiterates why Mexico is exporting their criminal poverty to the US.

Sounds like this sheriff is hitting to close to Home.

To bad he did not tour Sheriff Joe's Tent City here in Phoenix and see just what Sheriff Joe does to the Illegals. Then he could have said that he would be looking into getting things running up there in Ohio to get rid of the Illegal problem.

Boy did I get a good laugh out of that! Can't you see the kind of stink that would be raised placing illegals in a tent in Ohio's winter? But visualizing it would be a HUGE deterent for any other illegals.

The TRUTH seems to offend these people. Why is it when something negative is said about illegals, these people get all bent out of shape. Are they really THAT ethno-sensitive??

There is nothing "divisive" or "scapegoating" about telling the truth.

No one is blaming the "immigrant" for anything. We are placing the blame squarely where it belongs and demanding that our country stop being invaded, ruined, and bankrupted by millions of criminals who do not belong here.

The likes of Cabrera need to bundle up their coalitions, take them and their illegals back to their home countries, and focus on doing some good where the need for reform is greater.

Illegal immigrants ARE to blame for most of the "social and economic ills this country is facing." Our middle class is vanishing because illegals are stealing jobs. And we are losing our "health care policies" because the illegal immigrants have bankrupted our hospitals and other health facilities. Who do you think health insurance companies are going to pass their debts onto, other than Americans? That's why companies no longer offer "health care packages" as part of job incentive. ILLEGALS ARE TO BLAME FOR ALOT MORE CRIME TOO.

Well this is the first time I have heard anyone admit that we are haveing social or economic ill in this country, isn't that amazing, Usually they are saying if we send these people home we are going to have an economic catastrophe.

So if they know this country is in trouble and they are citizens why aren't they helping to solve the problem? Get with it or get out because that makes you part of the problem.
