(Avon Lake)- Nine illegal immigrants were arrested Wednesday morning at a home on Route 83.
Police Lt. Sean Bockelman says they were assisting U.S. Marshals with serving an arrest warrant at a home on Route 83 south of Walker Road. They didn't find the man they were looking for but instead found the immigrants.
U.S. Marshal Pete Elliot of the Cleveland office says they asked the men for identification and they said they didn't have any because they are here illegally. Elliot says, "it makes it a lot easier when people are honest with us." Two of the men were found hiding in the closet.
Elliot says the nine immigrants came from Mexico to Georgia and then to Avon Lake to work at a Mexican restaurant.
This isn't something that is common in Avon Lake but Lt. Sean Bockelman says, "it's not the first time this has happened, it seems like every few years we run across a group."
The Avon Lake Police Department, U.S. Border Patrol, and the U.S. Marshals were all on scene.

AVON LAKE — Police took nine illegal aliens into custody while looking for a fugitive at an Avon Lake home yesterday morning, police said.
U.S. marshals attempted to serve a warrant on a 30-year-old man at 571 Avon Belden Road, but instead found nine illegal Mexican aliens, all men, ranging from 17 to 40 years old. The man being sought was not found.
Sheffield Village police have an arrest warrant for Celestino Granados-Quechol, 30, on a failure to appear, a minor offense, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
"We were doing what we always do," said U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott, leader of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force. "We were just doing warrant sweeps and this is what we ran into."
Six of the men were immediately found inside the home, police said. Two more were found hiding inside a closet and another arrived at the house in a vehicle while authorities were there.
Elliott said the U.S. Marshals Service is serving about 100 warrants in Lorain County this week. There are 5,000 fugitives in northern Ohio, he said.
Police called U.S. Border Patrol after the nine men were unable to produce identification and they admitted to entering the U.S. from Mexico, Elliott said.
Elliott said the aliens worked at nearby Las Cazuelas Mexican Restaurant, at 445 Avon Belden Road. Phone calls to the restaurant were not answered.
The home where the aliens were found is owned by Richard Holub, according to the Lorain County Auditor's Office Web site. A message seeking comment from Holub was not returned last night.
The men are in custody of the border patrol and are awaiting a court hearing, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.
