A Painesville man has admitted to sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl in that city.

Miguel Pina-Martinez, 32, was arrested at his home in October after the victim told a school counselor she was raped by him.

Through a Spanish-language interpreter, Pina-Martinez pleaded guilty Wednesday in Lake County Common Pleas Court to one count of rape and one count of kidnapping.

The rape plea was an Alford plea — meaning he denies certain facts presented by the prosecutor but is admitting guilt to avoid the possibility of a much greater sentence if convicted at trial.

He faces up to 18 years in prison when he is sentenced March 11 by Judge Eugene A. Lucci. Pina-Martinez, an illegal immigrant, could also be deported to Mexico.

Lucci has revoked his bond.
