Sheriff issues a call to action
Butler County official writes Obama to urge him to take a stand against illegal immigration.

HAMILTON — Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones, a Republican who cast his vote for GOP candidate John McCain, wrote a letter of congratulations to President-elect Barack Obama along with a call for him to take a stand to fight illegal immigration.
"The past eight years have seen an increase in drugs coming from Mexico to the United States. The violence on the Mexico/United States border has increased to the point of United States citizens being kidnapped, taken into Mexico and held for ransom," Jones stated in the letter dated Thursday, Nov. 20.
Jones has been vocal in his get-tough stance with the federal government on illegal immigration. He said he had no choice because the federal government continued to do nothing.
"The drugs coming from Mexico to the United States is out of control and it appears we have no policy to control any of these serious problems," Jones said in the letter.
He added, "hopefully members of Congress, Senate and Representatives can come up with a policy that will save this country from the mire before conditions get worse."
A copy of the letter also was sent to U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nevada, majority leader, and U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., speaker of the house.
The sheriff ended with a plea for Obama not to overlook law enforcement when planning policy changes.
"We all know that it will take compromises from all sides. When planning policy for these issues, please consider the needs of the front line law enforcement agencies, jails and prison systems," the sheriff wrote.
Jones said he is willing to be among those who meet with national leaders to find an agreeable compromise to resolve the immigration issue.
"This is not about partisan politics," he said. "Something has to be done. We can't just keep mucking through it."
Hamilton Hispanic leaders could not be reached for comment Friday afternoon.

The government is the leading dope dealer in the US. They make millions by playing both sides. If I'm wrong, then why are so many narcotics being imported from south of the border. And whos responsibility is it to defend our borders, and it ain't bein' done.

How about enforcing our laws to the full extent before you just give up. That hasn't been tried yet to date. I didn't know we had to give up just to please those that crossed our border, snuck into our country for a few good times, rob us of our wealth, murder us on the streets and they want compromise???
How about the government listening to the people for a change and just do the job they were swarn in to do. The law is plainly clear on how to handle people that don't belong here. I didn't see any COMPROMISE within the law that told how to deal with this situation.
How about our government getting some guts and doing something about it instead of acting like we've been beaten and must surrender to a third world slum and it's people!

Can't argue with ya Airborne. It is the most fraudulent scheme next to socialist security, but if it's the government doing it, it's legal. The president is just an underpaid Al Capone anymore.

Democracy 2008: WCPO Special Section
Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones is calling on president-elect Barack Obama to help with immigration issues.
Jones wrote a letter to Obama concerning an increase in illegal immigrants in the county.
The sheriff has been outspoken on the issue, writing letters to several political leaders in the past.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Read Jones' letter to Obama.
The Honorable President-Elect Obama:
Congratulations on your successful campaign for President of the United States of America.
This letter is in regard to illegal immigration, illegal drugs and violence. The past eight years have seen an increase in drugs coming from Mexico to the United States. The violence on the Mexico – United States border has increased to the point of United States citizens being kidnapped, taken into Mexico and held for ransom.
The drugs coming from Mexico to the United States is out of control and it appears we have no policy to control any of these serious problems. I believe they need to be addressed by the new President.
Sir, I realize you have a great number of issues to address as you take office. Please give consideration when addressing the issues I have mentioned. Hopefully the members of Congress, Senate and Representatives can come up with a policy that will save this country from the mire before the conditions get worse.
We all know that it will take compromises from all sides. When planning policy for these issues, please consider the needs of the front line law enforcement agencies, jails and prison systems.
Again, congratulations on your election to the Office of President of the United States of America. Thank you for your time.
