Legislation To Identify Illegal Workers Needed Idaho Tea

Idaho: Legistation to identify illegal workers needed
    Bert Caldwell The Spokesman-Review

North Idaho Sen. Mike Jorgenson, who wants state employers to check worker immigration status, said Saturday high unemployment and state budget woes may finally overcome farm and business opposition to such a requirement.

Jorgenson-authored immigration legislation has failed to get a hearing the last two sessions. But with more than 66,000 in Idaho jobless, and a $50 million budget gap, a hearing would unleash popular support for measures that discourage the hiring of illegal immigrants, he said.

This reminds me of a caller I heard on a talk radio show here last week. He use to be in construction and talked about how the subcontractors began hiring illegals who outbid everyone else. So soon all the subcontractors started hiring illegals to be competitive. Then later illegals that had been working here for decades and earned more, newer illegals came and could outbid the older illegals. What a spiral. He talked of how years ago a man in construction could be the sole money maker in the home, have a couple kids, own a home and perhaps a boat. No more, those days are gone. This is what our federal government has allowed to a large segment of our middle class in this country. So tragic for so many American workers.

So wish good luck to Idaho for trying to make sure jobs go to American workers.

This is my life for the last 15 years.

I framed homes right out of graduating high school, in 1981. By 1988, I was no longer affordable @ $8 an hour. Illegals took over the framing of new homes and have ever since.
I took a job as a helper to a flooring installer. In 1990 I was asked to work for a flooring retailer here in Austin. Come Friday I learned I was in business for myself?? I had never run a business. I had no clue what "subcontractor" really meant.

Fast forward to 1999, still working as a piece work employee, mislabeled as a subcontractor, so the flooring retailer could skate around the cost of having a legal employee. My piece work pay was the same as it was in 1990.

Here comes the illegals in the mid 90's which slowly pushed me out as I was to take a pay cut of ½ of what I was making.

Floorcovering installation, has become one of those jobs Americans can no longer afford to do.

I struggle now to make a living at a career that was once well respected. Now it is just a commodity. The be competitive, I must hire illegals just like everyone else.... I refuse to do that, so I struggle.
A career I have years of investment into, I must work for minimum wage, when I do get the bid on the project.

I'm on the verge of going totally postal on these illegals that flood into my city I grew up in, invading it with poverty.

There is less middle class here. There is the upper class, who own businesses, that subcontract to legal citizens that use illegal labor. Then there is the low class illegals and those pushed into poverty by the loss of respect and work, to the low cost the illegals will work for.
Travis and Crockett, are flopping in their graves

When they first started outsourcing American jobs I was content in the fact they couldn't outsource construction jobs. Little did I suspect they would just allow IA cheap labor to flood the market here!

Welcome to alipac "Floorguy" your story is spreading all across America and is a reality for so many Americans.

They spin it as Jobs Americans won't do, not jobs Americans can not afford to do any longer because of the cheap labor.

This country is in big trouble and I fear Americans are not going to wake up and take the initiative to get involved to stop this madness and save their jobs, communities and states from the corruption going on.

Today the problem has not hit just blue collar workers, 20 years ago they told everyone to get a higher education if you are going to make it, but not they are out sourcing those jobs so blue collar or white collar it doesn't matter they are going to take down the whole middle class and redistribute the wealth, and too hell with us!

I would not be surprised if any worker is listed as a subcontractor these days. An acquaintace who was a general contractor in FL, listed every one of his employees as subcontractors as he could not afford to pay they workmen's comp for hiring a skilled worker (it was up to 44% for a trim carpenter.) At least he did not hire illegals, but all the folks in the city that he knew well. You may want to take a look at comp rates in your state as that may be why you suddenly became independent.
