OK: large increase in Hispanic students, need more $

Oklahoma schools see increase in Hispanic students

    Posted: Jan 28, 2009 10:41 AM

    Associated Press

OKLAHOMA CITY - The state Education Department says the number of Hispanic students in Oklahoma schools rose by 3,461 during the 2007-08 academic year. Total student enrollment in the state increased by 3,056 from October 2007.

State Superintendent Sandy Garrett says because of the increase in Hispanic students there will be an effort to hire more bilingual teachers.

Garrett says the Education Department will also ask the legislature for more money to train teachers in other languages and the help students make the transition into classes after a move.

Of course. Another of millions of examples of how the illegal invasion costs U.S. taxpaying CITIZENS money as well as their own decreased value in the labor market.

One can only hope the Oklahoma state legislators will somehow find the courage to say NO, no additional funds to support a specific ethnic group, just because they are here in outrageous numbers as a result of their ILLEGAL invasion of the U.S.

And to further accomodate the invaders, the Oklahoma dept of education will now give hiring priority to bilingual/bicultural applicants based solely on ethnicity, and some of you non-hispanic, legal, tax-paying citizen teachers might be out of a job, or won't be hired at all. You're less valuable.

Obviously Oklahoma has not heard of Mexifornia. The last thing you want is bilingual teachers! Teach them everything in English! How else are they going to learn it?

Welcome, builditnow!! And you have a great point, as there is no need to cater to one select group of people and ignore the kids who are not bilingual. Rather than adding teachers, seems like these folks are going to spin their wheels in one place. That monolingual teacher may lose a job because preference is given to the needs to illegal alien munchkins.
This is the same type of scam they pulled in Florida with the lottery for the benefit of education. It gave lawmakers the opportunity to pull money from school districts which was then replaced by money from the lottery, so rather than adding to education, education ended up at the same point money-wise where it started.
If you remove an experienced teacher from a position that pays a high salary, the state loses taxes paid by that teacher. Bringing in someone at a lower pay, the state is losing in taxes.

Thanks for the welcome. This is a great site, always seems very up to date. Also good info regarding local activism events. Talking about this issue helps me keep some of my sanity, when I regularly have to hear politicians and the media just cowardly and moronically agree with the Invasion activists, no matter how ludicrous they are. (There are a few exceptions in politics and the media, but its rare.)

Medicaid, school aid would grow sizably

NEW YORK TIMES NEWS SERVICE 2:00 a.m. January 28, 2009

Online: To see what school districts would get under the federal stimulus package, go to uniontrib.com/more/stimulus

WASHINGTON — The economic stimulus package moving through Congress would vastly expand the federal government's role in the nation's schools and create a temporary new entitlement allowing workers getting unemployment checks to qualify for Medicaid, the health program for low-income people.

The $150 billion, two-year investment in school districts, child-care centers and university campuses would more than double the Department of Education's current budget.

For health care, the economic recovery bill shaped by Democrats would speed $127 billion over the same period to individuals and states, a fact that has Republicans fuming that the stimulus package is a back door to universal health coverage. Spouses and children also could receive benefits, no matter how much money the family had.

In addition, the stimulus package would offer a hefty subsidy to help laid-off workers retain the same health plans they had from their former employers.

The expenditures on education, including school renovation, special education, Head Start and grants to needy college students, would amount to the largest increase in federal aid since Washington began to spend significantly on education after World War II.

Responding in part to a plea from Democratic governors this month, Congress agreed to help states facing large fiscal shortfalls maintain government services, and especially to avoid cuts to education programs, from pre-kindergarten through higher education.

Obama administration officials, teachers unions and associations representing school boards, colleges and other institutions in American education said the aid would bring crucial financial relief to the nation's 15,000 school districts and to thousands of campuses otherwise threatened with severe cutbacks.

“This is going to avert literally hundreds of thousands of teacher layoffs,â€
