One Reporter's Opinion: The Apple Pie's Rotting Core
    George Putnam
    Friday, Feb. 3, 2006
It is this reporter's opinion that the godfather of public relations in Washington is Jack Abramoff, as he has brought together corrupt politicians, the criminal underworld and the global power elite.

A kid out of Beverly Hills High School, Abramoff arrived in Washington 20 years ago in the company of his former buddy, Ralph Reed, later to become head of the Christian Coalition. With the Republican conquest of Congress in 1994, Abramoff became a practitioner of crony capitalism.

In 1995 Abramoff met House Majority Whip Tom DeLay.

Out of that meeting grew a working relationship with DeLay aide Michael Scanlon who went on to a lucrative career as lobbyist and P.R. consultant for American Indian casino interests.

Abramoff, Scanlon and Reed became involved in an effort to defeat a proposed Texas state law that would have permitted an Indian tribe in Alabama to open a casino near Houston. This would've undermined the economic interests of a casino tribe in Louisiana and involved a $32 million lobbying and P.R. contract. So much for the Indian money.

Next stop for Abramoff and company, the Northern Mariana Islands, a Pacific archipelago located about three-quarters of the way from Hawaii to the Philippines, acquired by the U.S. from Japan following World War II.

Saipan, largest of the fourteen Marianas, has become the center of a billion-dollar garment industry. Saipan has become a very popular tourist destination for junketeering congressmen, many of them brought to Saipan by the godfather, himself, Jack Abramoff, who encountered little difficulty persuading influential people to take all-expenses-paid trips to Saipan.

During a lavish New Year's Eve dinner party held in his honor, DeLay praised Saipan as "my Galapagos Island, a perfect petri dish of capitalism."

Under the influence of Jack Abramoff and Former House Majority Whip Tom DeLay, Saipan has become a slave labor camp on American soil. Impoverished Asian women, most of them Chinese, toil 80 hours a week making brand name apparel for export to the United States.

The female garment workers are lured to the labor camps, which are run by members of the Chinese Communist Party. These pitiful women are forced to sign "shadow contracts" that make them slaves. Their activities are strictly regimented, and they depend on the company store for their necessities. The little they earn is recycled back into the company.

Despite being produced from Chinese fabric, by Chinese laborers who labor under Chinese law, the designer clothing that emerges from those slave factories is labeled "Made In The U.S.A."

My friend, William Norman Grigg, author of "America's Engineered Decline," exposes this tawdry sellout of America.

In his book, Grigg says, "Even as our nation exports jobs that once opened the door to the middle class, we are importing waves of unskilled immigrants, including millions of illegals ... . No longer our protector, the political elite schemes to merge our country with other nations of this hemisphere into a continent-spanning Socialist mega-state modeled after the European union."

Grigg predicts the end of America's middle class. He says, "We are basically liquidating our whole middle class, polarizing people on two extremes - the haves and have nots."

Whether it is the impoverished Mexicans, the robbing of Indian casinos, or slave labor camps in the Marianas, Abramoff, DeLay and their ilk are determined to set their own immigration policy, exempt from labor and workplace regulations and exempt from tariffs and quotas; unabashedly abusing the right to label products "Made In The U.S.A."

These products are manufactured by Chinese workers, controlled by the Communist Chinese! Meanwhile Abramoff, DeLay, Reed and company operate their own petri dish of capitalism.

As my friend Grigg says, "Corruption operates at the highest levels in America because 96 percent of our senators and congressmen continue to be elected by a trusting public. It all requires an organized opposition." We appear determined to carry out our own experiment in Socialism that has failed miserably in every country on the planet.

    Editor's Note:

Every day, George Putnam says on his radio show, as he has for 70 years as a journalist - it's time to get back to American values, American made products, self-reliance, and end up with good old American common sense. It's time to return to the message and morals of that great old film, "The Best Years of Our Lives."

As shocking as this is, I guess it should not be surprising that anything goes in the Bush Administration. But how widely is this situation in the Marianas known by the American Public?? Has anyone seen anything about this in the mainstream media since the Abramoff scandal broke? If not, can we coax Lou Dobbs to feature this on his reports?

This situation in Saipan sounds like a preview of what all of America could become, with unlimited and illegal immigration, complete disregard of labor laws, etc.
