A man described by police as an illegal immigrant from Mexico living in Lower Paxton Twp. was arraigned Thursday night on charges filed after a crash at Locust Lane and South Arlington Avenue that took the life of an 87-year-old woman.

Mararito Jardono, 24, of Locust Grove Court, was driving a Dodge Ram pickup east on Locust Lane at 10:15 a.m. when he drove through a red traffic signal and crashed into the driver's side door of Cleo Virginia Kint's Buick Lacrosse, court records state.

Kint, no address given, was treated at the scene and taken to nearby Community General Osteopathic Hospital, where she died of injuries suffered in the crash, police said.

Lower Paxton Twp. police told District Judge Ray Shugars that Jardono was in the country illegally. Shugars set bail at $10,000.

Jardono's relatives and the pastor of his church were trying to raise the money Thursday night.

Shugars said federal immigration authorities were notified of Jardono's arrest. Federal agents did not attend the arraignment.

Police said Kint was wearing a seat belt. There was no indication alcohol was a factor in the crash, police said.

Jardono was charged with being an unlicensed driver involved in an accident involving death, in addition to related traffic and license offenses.

Court records indicated the registration on Jardano's vehicle expired in March.
