From staff reports
MIFFLINTOWN - Two people were injured after a Ford Expedition lost control and struck a tree on Sunday along state Route 333 in Milford Township, Juniata County, Pennsylvania State Police Lewistown report.
Pedro Torres, 19, of Mifflintown, was traveling west on Route 333 at an apparent high rate of speed, police report. The vehicle's right front tire travelled off the right side of the roadway, began to spin counter-clockwise and struck the tree with the front passenger-side door, police said. Torres then fled the scene as police arrived, and was pursued on foot and arrested, the report indicates.
Police said it was later determined that Torres is an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, and does not have a driver's license. Torres had minor injuries as a result of the accident, police said.
Torres' passenger, Juan Bergos-Delgado, 31, of Lewistown, sustained major injuries, police said. He was extracted from the vehicle by mechanical means and flown to Geisinger Trauma Center in Danville, according to the report.
Torres will be charged with accidents involving serious bodily injury to another without being properly licensed, which is a felony, as well as other summary traffic charges, police said. He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Barbara Lyter and placed in the Juniata County Prison in lieu of $10,000 straight bail.
Police were assisted by Friendship Fire Co. and Port Royal EMS.
