Riverside delays immigration law pending hearing

In the context of the national debate about undocumented immigrants, last year's "Illegal Immigration Relief Act," a Riverside ordinance, threw a spotlight on that Delaware River town.
Local officials insisted the law, which bans hiring or renting housing to illegals, was necessary to stem an influx of illegal immigration. A coalition of business owners and landlords sought to beat the law back in court.

Yesterday, Burlington County Superior Court approved a consent order in which Riverside agreed not to enforce the ordinance pending a full hearing on the merits of the legal challenge at the end of August.- Michael Matza
