Parents: watch for SPLC Cesar Chavez "documentary"

Parents: watch for Southern Poverty Law Center's Cesar Chavez "documentary"

The Southern Poverty Law Center - a group indirectly linked to the Mexican government - is producing a "documentary" on Cesar Chavez which they'll be distributing free to schools across the U.S. starting in September (splcenter.org/news/item.jsp?aid=318, via this: http://conservativetimes.org/?p=2043 ). Since the SPLC is a strong supporter of illegal immigration, the fact that Chavez opposed illegal immigration is probably going to be left on the cutting room floor. Please watch out for their video and, if your local school district will be taking them up on their offer, review the video for balance and fill in any facts they "forgot" to mention. The fact that UFW co-founder Dolores Huerta: http://lonewacko.com/blog/archives/007587.html is involved at least as an interviewee is not in the least a good sign.

Was Cesar Chavez Really Against Illegal Immigration?
    By Gustavo Arellano
    Published on July 03, 2008
Whenever I have an immigration debate with my Chicano hermanos who support open borders and get angry at any type of immigration control, they don't seem to understand the basic laws of economics, such as the fact that migrant workers who pick fruit, work in construction and do other blue-collar jobs can never demand wage increases as long as a steady flow of their friends keeps coming up from the homeland. Will somebody please remind them that Cesar Chavez was against illegal immigration because it ruined his union's chances of controlling the labor market, unionizing and demanding better pay?

César Chávez, illegal immigrants, Spanish italicizedEl Confused-o Gringo-o

    Dear Gabacho,

I will! Yes, Virginia: Not only was Cesar Chavez against illegal immigration, not only did he speak out against the Mexican invasion before Congress, not only did United Farm Workers members monitor the United States-Mexico border Ã* la the Minutemen, but Chavez even sicced la migra on the undocumented from time to time. The curious case of Chavez and his evolving views on illegal immigration is best explained in University of California, San Diego professor David G. Gutierrez's 1995 book, Walls and Mirrors: Mexican Americans, Mexican Immigrants, and the Politics of Ethnicity. There, the good profe documents how the position of the union leader regarding illegal immigration changed under pressure from Chicano yaktivists. Know Nothings love to repeat Chavez's initial hatred of open borders, so much so that a page on the UFW's Web site now claims Chavez was against scabs, not illegal immigration, despite reams of evidence to the contrary. But pointing out Chavez's original opposition to illegal immigration as validation of one's anti-immigrant views while disregarding his Aztlanista tendencies is like homophobes basing their bigotry on the Old Testament while not bothering to follow the Nazarene's insistence on loving thy neighbor. Confused-o Gringo-o: find a better icon to cherry pick for your rhetorical needs — unless you believe in the supremacy of la raza above everyone else, that is.

I hope this film comes to my kids' school, because my children can give their teachers quite an education on illegal immigrants!!! They've been hearing Dad and I talk about it for years and they have even attended a protest!!

My 9 yr old can describe, in simple terms, how illegal aliens take from the public trough without putting anything back in.

My 8 yr old can tell, in not such simple terms, how illegal aliens bring diseases the US got rid of long ago.

    LOL

I DARE them to show this film in our schools!!!
The flag flies at half-mast out of grief for the death of my beautiful, formerly-free America. May God have mercy on your souls.

La Raza and the SPLC are hate groups that demonize hard working Americans that insist on the enforcement of our written immigration laws. Let's not forget the ACLU because they certainly rate a place on your "pure evil" list.
